What internet browser do you use?

Posted on December 16, 2011

Today’s browsing should be enjoyable, and you should be getting the most out of your web experience without being limited to running Windows 7 to run the latest version of IE.  CinnTech has seen around 80% of users still using Internet Explorer. So the question is, is Internet Explorer the best? It’s possibly just because it’s the default browser that comes with Windows, and not many people know how or why they should switch.

We’ll focus on the differences between the main 4 browsers, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Apple Safari. In the process of designing websites it’s important that a website looks similar in all browsers. It’s almost impossible, from our experience, to make them all the same, unless of course it’s a very vanilla site.  I used all the versions  to write portions of this blog.  Frequently I use Firefox (version 8 ) as my default browser. I’ve been testing Google Chrome lately and have found that I may make a permanent switch, let see which one you’ll choose.
As Internet Explorer is installed on all Windows based PC’s, I’ll go over three version of IE.  Updates are not as simple and are more ‘user required’ with IE.  The other browsers make their updates more straight forward. If you’ve made the switch you’ve probably kept up to date on the updates, possibly without even knowing. So let’s see which versions of Windows are compatible with each browser:

Windows

7

  • Internet Explorer 9
  • Internet Explorer 8
  • Internet Explorer 7
  • Firefox 3
  • Firefox 8
  • Chrome 15
  • Safari 5
Get Firefox

Windows

Vista

  • Internet Explorer 9
  • Internet Explorer 8
  • Internet Explorer 7
  • Firefox 3
  • Firefox 8
  • Chrome 15
  • Safari 5
Get Chrome

Windows

XP & 2003

  • Internet Explorer 9
  • Internet Explorer 8
  • Internet Explorer 7
  • Firefox 3
  • Firefox 8
  • Chrome 15
  • Safari 5
Get Safari

As you can see Internet Explorer is limited by the version of Windows you’re running. I find it strange that a Microsoft based product doesn’t allow modern browsers to run on older systems whereas the other three browsers will run without any issues. You’ll still have to check the system requirements for each browser as there are other requirements needed. If you’re running iOS (Apple), all browsers work except any versions of IE (without windows emulation I believe). You can get the system requirements and the latest browsers from the links:
